Cycling

It’s the simplest of machines that connects us all.

Life is like riding a bicycle. In order to keep your balance, you must keep moving. - Albert Einstein 1879-1955

It’s the simplest of machines that connects us all – two wheels, a frame, a saddle, pedals and a chain; the freedom to go where you want, when you want and all under your own steam.  For many of us it’s the first machine we own, it’s the first time we’re truly in control of where we’re going.

Here in New Zealand we’ve gone to war on bikes, women fought for the right to vote on two wheels, we’ve won medals at the Olympics on bicycles and today most homes have a bike in a shed or garage. From the trike to the carbon fibre race machine – there’s a bike for everyone, and this is a collection of stories about bicycles featured on Radio New Zealand National.
