Broccoli and Brussels Sprouts with Bacon and Almonds

(Serves 6 as a side dish)


  • 1 head broccoli
  • 300g Brussels sprouts, trimmed
  • 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 rashers rindless bacon, coarsely sliced
  • 1/3 cup slivered almonds
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper


Cut broccoli into florets. Cut Brussels sprouts in half. Blanch vegetables by cooking in boiling salted water for three minutes, then drain well.

Heat a large frying pan, add the oil, bacon and almonds and stir-fry for three to four minutes to brown. Add broccoli and Brussels sprouts and toss well over heat to stir-fry for two to three minutes.

Season well with salt and pepper to taste and serve immediately as a vegetable accompaniment.
