Calexico live at WOMAD 2016.

Hailing from Tucson, Arizona, Calexico have toured New Zealand a number of times and have established a reputation for delivering a great show. They last played WOMAD 2010 and It’s essentially the same band for this WOMAD performance, centered around founding members Joey Burns and John Convertino, who have been playing together for over 20 years. Find out more about Calexico in this interview with leader Joey Burns.

Calexico’s desert noir sound draws influences from a number of sources including Portuguese fado, 50’s jazz, 60’s surf, country twang and a hint of spaghetti western epics.

After seven studio albums, soundtracks, collaborations with a number of pedigree artists and 15 years of touring the world; Calexico remain a band who have maintained their independence and musical integrity by doing it on their own terms.
