De La Soul live at WOMAD 2016.
American hip hop trio De La Soul proved to be one of the most anticipated shows over the WOMAD weekend. They have visited Aotearoa a few times and are obviously appreciative of the support they continue to receive here.
They brought with them their long-term live touring band and with a back catalogue of nine albums and various mix tapes, had no shortage of material to choose from for their WOMAD debut.
Their performance on the Saturday night demonstrated why De La Soul was such a groundbreaking force in the 1980s, and why they continue to maintain their relevance in a genre that is incredibly competitive. Both Pos and Dave, as front men, are still able to get a crowd on their feet and get them dancing and singing along to some veritable hip hop perennials.
