The Semi-finalists have selected their repertoire from the following:
A One of the following selections, by memory, from Bach Unaccompanied Sonatas and Partitas
1. Adagio and Fuga from Sonata No 1 in G minor
2. Grave and Fuga from Sonata No 2 in A minor
3. Adagio and Fuga from Sonata No 3 in C major
4. Allemanda, Double, Corrente and Double from Partita No 1 in B minor
5. Ciaccona from Partita No 2 in D minor
6. Preludio, Loure, Gavotte en Rondeau and MenuetI and II from Partita No 3 in E
B One of the following first movements, including cadenza, from the following Mozart concerti by memory with piano accompaniment. (Competitors are encouraged to supply their own Cadenza)
1. Allegro from Concerto No 3 in G major, KV 216
2. Allegro from Concerto No 4 in D major, KV 218
3. Allegro Aperto from Concerto No 5 in A major, KV 219
The Michael Hill International Violin Competition aims to promote young violinists from all over the world who are launching their professional solo careers and are aspiring to establish themselves on the world stage; to recognise and encourage excellence and musical artistry, and to expand performance opportunities (including playing New Zealand repertoire).
Radio New Zealand Concert will be publishing audio on demand of the performances from the semi-finals and final on this page. Semi-final round III and the final will also be broadcast live on air.
