Christine Argyle admits to enjoying two lifelong passions – choral singing and travel. And the great thing about these two passions is… you can indulge them both at the same time!
Christine grew up in a musical family in Ashburton. She learned singing and piano from a young age and also developed a strong interest in languages. She went on to study French, German and music at university and in her late teens joined the National Youth Choir. After completing her degree, Christine travelled with the choir to England and Europe and that was it – her love of music had managed to infect her with the travel bug. Over the next decade she set out to conquer as many corners of the globe as possible, travelling through the Pacific, South-east Asia, Europe and the Middle East before eventually settling back in New Zealand in 1991.
Christine has sung with the London Symphony Chorus, the Auckland Opera Chorus and the Tudor Consort, and is a foundation member of the Voices New Zealand Chamber Choir. In 2004 she formed her own choir in Wellington, Nota Bene, and she currently sits on the board of the NZ Choral Federation. Having found her dream job at Radio New Zealand, and with two young children now, Christine’s wanderlust has been curbed… for the time being!
