Born in England, Peter foiled a Jesuit plot to educate him in London, then ran away to sea, which was how he first came to visit New Zealand in 1960.
After deciding a maritime career was the wrong choice, he made the right choice by coming to live in New Zealand in 1967, and found his true vocation as a broadcaster. He began as an announcer in Gisborne the following year and has worked with the NZBC and Radio New Zealand in Christchurch, Hawkes Bay and Wellington.
Peter has no musical ability of any kind, and has a huge admiration of anyone who has, which is why Radio New Zealand Concert is such a wonderful place to work. But he is no stranger to public performance, having appeared on stage at Court Theatre in Christchurch and Circa in Wellington, and on television in commercials and occasional dramas, but these days he's content to be a member of the audience.
