Composer of the Week - Gian Carlo Menotti

From Composer of the Week, 7:15 pm on 30 January 2012

Gian Carlo Menotti (1911-2007)

Presented by Elric Hooper and Des Wilson

Despite living nearly his whole adult life in the United States, Gian Carlo Menotti always kept his Italian citizenship. A rarity amongst composers, he wrote the libretti as well as the scores for his operas. Most were written in English, but he always provided an Italian translation. Elric Hooper and Des Wilson explore the life of this Puccini-loving composer, the characteristic themes of his works and how deserving he was of the criticism he received.
