Roger Wilson says "Castelnuovo-Tedesco seems to have been the most amiable and contented of men."

Certainly despite the hardships of his life, including fleeing the fascist dictatorship of Mussolini to start a new life in the United States, Castelnuovo-Tedesco seemed to take difficulties in his stride. He made friends easily and composed prolifically and competently, in many genres.

Castelnuovo-Tedesco became interested in the guitar through his friend Andrés Segovia. A pianist himself, he learned to write for the instrument especially to compose for Segovia. Interestingly enough, his guitar works are some of his most popular pieces.
