The composer Georges Auric encapsulated Fauré’s legacy in an article shortly after Faure’s death in which he wrote:
“Faure’s achievement was to invent musical forms which attracted our hearts and senses without debasing them. He offered a homage to Beauty in which there was not only faith, but a discreet yet irresistible passion... The delicate precision of his architecture, the concision (without dryness) of his ideas will long guide us in our moments of anxiety.”
Kenneth Young looks at Fauré's life and his ability as a composer in many genres, expressing the opinion that aside from his songs, the majority of Fauré's output is sadly under-performed.
