It was a time when New Zealand made the shift from colony to dominion, composer Alfred Hill was flying the flag, and the piano brought music not only to the parlour, but also to theatres, dance halls and the concert stage.

The Days Of Yesterday, written and produced by Peter Downes during 1963, is a radio feature that offers random glimpses of life and entertainment in New Zealand, and beyond, during the first decade (1900 - 1910) of the twentieth century. The programme utilises recorded and written news reports, letters, and reminiscences of the day. The music details were added by Alison Lloyd Davies in November 2005.
