Sébastien Hurtaud (cello), with NZ Symphony Orchestra conducted by Hamish McKeich.
FARR: Cello Concerto, Chemin des Dames (première performance)
This work marks the centenary of one of the bloodiest battles of WWI at Chemin des Dames, just outside Paris. It also acknowledges the impact of the war on women and their families. Farr's own three great-great-uncles, all brothers, were killed in the war and are buried in France and Belgium. It's composed especially for Sébastien Hurtaud who'll also give the French première later in 2017.
Recorded 5 May 2017, Michael Fowler Centre, Wellington by RNZ Concert.
