William Dart looks beyond "Rhinestone Cowboy", "Wichita Lineman", and "Galveston" to the lesser-known but equally brilliant and affecting Glen Campbell.

For some, Campbell has, in William's words, "come to stand for a middle of the road that has a few too many potholes for comfort." But in William's view, one of singer's real virtues was "being able to tackle fiercely middle-of-the-road material and somehow set it aglow. Not by suggesting there was any irony afoot, but by accepting it at face value and finding honesty in what many may see as rather tarnished images."

Featured in this programme are Campbell's collaboration with Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys, his guitar work with Frank Sinatra, an astonishing mash-up duet with Anne Murray of "By The Time I Get to Phoenix" and Burt Bacharach's "Say A Little Prayer", and a swag of achingly gorgeous Jimmy Webb songs that you may not have heard before.

This online version differs to the broadcast programme ... some of the songs are allowed to play complete.
