"Ross Harris's 'Etude' has the sub-title 'Waves'. It was written in 2013 for pianist Michele Binnie who lives just up the highway from me in Te Horo. She performed it as part of her Masters recital at the New Zealand School of Music. She and Ross are old friends and with the spectacular beach at Te Horo with its unique view of Kapiti Island Harris found inspiration for this work.

"It has a gentle wavelike fluidity where Harris mainly explores the upper register of the piano. Out of the total 167 bars only 18 of them have the left hand performing in the bass clef. The piece positively sparkles throughout, perhaps a subconscious allusion to the play of sunlight upon the waves."
