"'Study in Blue and Green'...was written for the Kapiti National Piano Competition as a test piece in 2001.The title refers to Paekakariki, a small village on the Kapiti Coast where the piano competition was held. The colour of the sea there goes through the most extraordinary transitions and it is the various hues of blue and green which have inspired this piece by Harris. The deft lightness in the opening eventually gives way to a spacious slower passage which eventually finds us in the low register of the piano, exploring even more of those variations on blue and green."
