Young jazz vocalist Lauren Nottingham features on pianist Mark Donlon’s latest album Shadowbird and the two are touring the country with drummer Dexter Stanley-Tauvao and bassist Chris Beernink to show off their new stuff. As well as traditional jazz singing Lauren also loves to scat on nonsensical improvised vocal sounds instead of words. She talks to Eva Radich about her scatting idol, how she deals with nerves on stage, and how getting her performances pulled apart and critiqued made her a stronger performer.
