The image of an ice skater inspired the opening oscillation of the strings for Ice, Kirsten Strom’s addition to this year’s Todd Young Composer Awards. The artist, poet, street performer and young composer draws inspiration from travels, and finds beauty in the science of sound. Her piece was selected as the Orchestra’s Choice at the competition last week. She speaks to Clarissa Dunn about her creative process and working with James McMillian.
