The strained relationship between the Royal New Zealand Ballet and the New Zealand School of Dance didn’t affect Wellington City Council’s decision for relocating the national ballet company. The Council has cancelled its plan to upgrade Te Whaea National Dance and Drama Centre to accommodate the RNZB while its home in the St James Theatre is being earthquake strengthened next year.  WCC’s Richard McLean explains why the Council will spend $2.5 million on a temporary ballet studio on the Michael Fowler Centre car park instead.
