Samoa phone service set to improve

4:35 pm on 17 January 2003

The state-owned telephone company of Samoa says with its new service vans it hopes to be able to improve its services and make many more new connections.

The CEO of SamoaTel, Mark Yeoman, has told local television that the new fleet of vans should allow the company to achieve its target of 600 new connections a month.

Mr Yeoman says the 22 vans have been equipped as mobile service stations which should also speed up repair work as staff will no longer need to return to their base to get equipment.

He says the new vehicles should also help to fulfill its commitment of placing a phone in every household.

This comes amid complaints by the public over lengthy delays to get phone services restored.
