Solomon's new police commissioner will arrive this week

Solomon Islands new police commissioner will arrive in the country later this week.

He is William Morrell from the Greater Manchester Police in the United Kingdom, who replaces Morton Siriheti, who completed his contract in November.

The British government is funding the post as part of its contribution to the restoration of law and order.

Last year senior police petitioned the government questioning the need for an expatriate to lead the force.

The government says it is better to get someone from outside with an impartial view of the problems in the country.
