Police in the Cook Islands are appealing to the public to come forward after launching a murder investigation over the discovery of a body on the golf course.

Commissioner Pera Wichman says 30 people have already been interviewed after 21 year old local, Anthony Karati, was discovered with suspicious marks on his body.

Mr Wichman says police are trying to establish what happened to Mr Karati in the two hours before he was killed.

"He works in one of the local bars and he was at work on Saturday night and from then on we are trying to hone in on the last two hours prior to his death. We are also interested in people who were partying along Nikao there on the beach basically opposite the golf course or any of the motorists who may have driven through the golf course area between midnight on Saturday night and seven o'clock on Sunday morning when the body was found."
