Five Samoan fishermen rescued after five days adrift

9:14 am on 27 April 2002

All five fishermen on board a fishing boat from American Samoa that had been missing for five days are now safe and sound but very, very hungry.

A rescue boat from Samoa was dispatched by local police to pick up the men and tow their boat to Apia after they were spotted during a routine patrol by a New Zealand Air Force Orion.

The men and their rescuers arrived back in Apia Friday morning.
