A Fiji police constable has been charged with robbery with violence of an Indian family on the day of the May 2000 coup when anti-Indian violence erupted in the farming settlement of Muaniweni.

The suspect and thirteen others are alleged to have attacked an Indian farming family and taken cash and assorted items worth over 2 and a half thousand dollars.

The constable has been suspended pending his court case which is listed for May the 15th.

Hundreds of Indians fled Muaniweni during the anti-Indian violence by coup front man George Speight's supporters and sought shelter in Fiji's first ever refugee camp in Lautoka.
