The European Union has warned Fiji not to use its 17 million US dollars in aid money for land acquistion.

9 point bmillion dollars of this money is due to be spent on a new bridge over the Rewa river at Nausori.

But the Fiji Times reports that the Methodist Church is demanding 2 point 8 million US dollars for a piece of land, valued by the government at 65 thousand dollars, for the approach to the bgridge.

The European Union representative in Fiji, Frans Baan, says the funds were given especially for development projects that would improve the quality of life in the country.

Mr Baan says the government will have to pay for the land because the EU funds were not given for that purpose
