Teachers in Papua New Guinea are expected to withdraw from the the Wau-Baulolo District because of continued harassment culminating in the killing of a colleague last week.

The teachers from the area will meet the Teachers Association in Mamose tomorrow to press for a withdrawal.

Last Thursday, Anton Pokahun, a Catholic teacher, was shot and killed in front of his daughter and other missionary colleagues.

The Catholic Education Agency secretary, Anne Barnabas, says the incident was not an isolated case and she supports any move to withdraw teachers from the region.

"enough is enough they've put up with this for a long time the church has put up schools there to help the community there to help the people there but if the people are not working together with the teachers in there for the safety of the teachers then why stay there and be killed."

Anne Barnabas says the limited number of police in the region are helpless because the trouble-makers often have high-powered weapons.
