Preparations are underway in Solomon Islands for a public inquiry into last March's death of New Zealand diplomat, Bridget Nichols.

She was found stabbed in the compound of her residence in Honiara and police say all evidence points to her dying as a result of an accident.

The court registrar, David Chetwynd, says he will call the police and forensic experts who dealt with the investigation.

"I've called for a death and fire inquiry which I hope to hold starting on the thirteenth of June at the high court and that I will be calling not only the forensic officers involved and the police officers involved but anyone else I feel can give credible and relevant evidence to the inquiry"
