Solomon Islands Police Minister Benjamin Una says his nephew, John Buarafi, stabbed and killed New Zealander Kevin O'Brien in Honiara in February this year.

Mister Una says Buarafi has been harboured in a village on Malaita since the attack.

The minister says he went to the village to convince his relatives to hand Buarafi over to police.

"I went up to these people and told his relatives that they should not have any criminals - it is a serious offence for murdering someone and that those who harbour those criminals should also be prosecuted."
