NZ to give small sum to PMC amnesty campaign

8:32 am on 21 May 2002

The New Zealand high commission in Solomon Islands is today to give 15-hundred US dollars towards the campaign by the Peace Monitoring Council to collect stolen weapons.

This comes ahead of an expiry of an amnesty at the end of next week by which stolen weapons and stolen property are to be returned.

The government has said those who fail to comply will face the law.

Previous attempts to get weapons out of circulations by setting deadlines for their surrender have failed.
