10:32 am on 12 June 2002

Governent employees in Solomon Islands Temotu province have had their working week reduced because of financial problems.

As of yesterday, government officers are only working every other day.

The deputy secretary for the province, Andrew Nanauoha, says the arrangement will remain in force until electricity and water supplies are restored to the township of Lata.

Mr Nanauoha says if things don't improve government workers may get a full week off.

Temotu is awaiting supplies, including fuel, from Honiara.
