The lawyer for the Satala Landowners Association in American Samoa says mediation with Starkist Samoa will be held next week.

Charles Alialima says Tuesday 18th June has been set as a tentative date for mediation between the landowners group and the US territory's biggest private employer.

The Satala Landowners Association has begun legal proceedings to evict the cannery Starkist Samoa, which employs 4-thousand workers, off its land.

The landowners claim that Starkist had refused to pay more than 423 US dollars a month which was the sum agreed in a 1977 lease that had expired nine years ago.

They are also claiming back rent of more than 110 thousand dollars after Starkist expanded it's facilities without authorisation.
