Pacific Islands Forum to see what help it can offer Solomons

5:12 pm on 18 June 2002

An Eminent Persons group representing the Pacific Islands Forum will visit Solomon Islands this week to see what it can contribute to the rebuilding process.

The group includes Fiji's former Foreign Minister, Filipe Bole, former Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, Greg Urwin, and Phillip Muller, who has been a director of the Forum Fisheries Agency and of SOPAC.

They will meet with the Prime Minister, Sir Allen Kemakeza, his ministers and senior officials, the International Peace Monitoring Team and the Peace Monitoring Council and representatives of NGOs.

The Group is expected to prepare a report on what the Forum can do to help restore law and order.

That report will be submitted to the 2002 Forum in August in Suva.
