Fiji garment industry sees factory closure but also expansion

Fiji's garment industry remains in turmoil with some closing down and others taking on more staff.

More than 300 workers from the Nausori area have lost their jobs after the garment factory they were employed in closed down.

The Fiji Sun says Leisurewear Garment closed down because the lease for the land on which the factory was built expired and was not renewed.

Meanwhile, Fiji's biggest garment manufacturer, United Apparel, is taking back some of the workers it laid off after the coup because of an improvement in export.

In managing director, Ranjit Solanki, says Fiji is regaining its reputation as a reliable supplier and orders are coming back.
