4:02 pm on 11 July 2002

The Solomon Islands Public Employee Union or SIPEC is meeting about now to decide whether to go ahead with threatened strike action by 4-thousand public servants.

The workers had been owed a month's pay , but when SIPEC issued the prime minister with notice that they would strike, the government paid half of the outstanding amount.

SIPEC head, Clement Waiwori, says his union is holding an executive meeting to decide whether to carry out the action which would affect administrative staff, nurses, paramedics, and college of education lecturers.

Meanwhile a strike by two thousand teachers, also over outstanding unpaid wages, is continuing.
