Strike action against Air Pacific may end tonight

10:46 am on 31 July 2002

A strike by employees of Fiji's national airline, Air Pacific, is expected to end at midnight tonight.

But this will depend on whether the strikers decide to lift their industrial action at a meeting later today.

The developments follow a hearing ordered by Fiji's permanent arbitrator, John Semisi, late yesterday at which a timetable to resolve the dispute was drawn up.

Mr Semisi has given the Fiji Aviation Workers Association and Air Pacific two weeks to make their submissions before he hears their case on August the 20th.

He wants the association to end its strike while the arbitration process takes place.
