Almost all Fiji's MPs say they want a pay rise

Most of Fiji's parliamentarians, with the exception of the finance minister, Ratu Jone Kubuabola, want a pay rise.

Ratu Jone has told the Fiji Times a pay rise should depend on whether funds are available.

The appointment of a committee to review MPs pay has sparked outrage among civil society groups and NGOs who say there are far more pressing priorities such as allowances for destitutes.

But the public enterprises minister, Irami Matairavula, says the review has nothing to do with NGOs.
