3:46 pm on 12 August 2002

Fingerprinting of Norfolk Island residents is under way in a bid to solve the community's first murder in 150 years.

The body of Sydney woman Janelle Patton, was discovered in March by tourists at the Cockpit Waterfall Reserve.

All Norfolk Island residents between the ages of 15 and 70 were sent letters last week, inviting them to take part in the scheme.

Police say the process is voluntary.
