Fiji coup front man says he will not name accomplices

10:49 am on 20 August 2002

The Fiji coup front man, George Speight, says he will not reveal the names of any senior army officers involved in the May 2000 overthrow of the Chaudhry government.

Radio FM-96 says the message was delivered through Speight's brother, government MP, Samisoni Tikonisau.

Mr Tikonisau says Speight told him he had no ill-feelings towards any of his supporters who may have ditched him after the coup.

Meanwhile. a Fiji newspaper report says the military has refused to comment on Mr Tikonisau's comment to Radio New Zealand International that the military backed and supported the coup.

Mr Tikonisau had said that there was no way the coup could have happened without the support and knowledge of the military.
