PNG public sector unions adamantly opposed to a cut in working hours

The Papua New Guinea Public Service has rejected a Government proposal to reduce working hours across the board as one way of dealing with a 54 US dollar budget deficit.

The Public Employee Association President, Michael Malabag says the proposal is another way of disguising a previous government suggestion of a 10 percent across the board wage cut.

Mr Malabag says he has requested a meeting with the Minister of Public Service and his department to discuss the issue.
