Fiji Democratic Party says it aims to fight racial divide

10:22 am on 27 August 2002

The newly-formed Fiji Democratic Party says it aims to wipe out racial differences in the country for good.

The party's secretary general, Filipe Bole, has told the Fiji Sun they are sick and tired of people, especially those in power, bringing up racial issues.

Mr Bole says this is the main reason for the formation of the Fiji Democratic Party whose logo is Different Races, One People.

He says members of the party are concerned citizens who have seen and experienced a great deal of political instability and racial division in recent years.

Mr Bole says Fiji deserves better than what it is currently getting abd party members hope to take the country forward to a new political summit where unity in ethnic diversity will be respected and promoted.

He says party members believe that the move would be the foundation for firm and lasting economic progress.

The Fiji Democratic Party will get its first test at the polls during municipal elections in October.
