Solomon Islands observe national day of mourning for assassinated minister Geve

Solomon Islands is today observing a day of national mourning following last week's assassination of a government minister, Father Augustine Geve.

The minister is claimed to have been assassinated by the Guadalcanal Liberation Front whose leader, Harold Keke, controls the island's weathercoast.

Flags will fly at half-mast today and a mass is to be held for the late Father Geve, who was the first governent minister to be killed.

The police minister has asked Australia and New Zealand to help bring Harold Keke to justice.
