There are reports that five people, including two children, have been shot dead on Guadalcanal in Solomon Islands.
Another four have been wounded in the shooting, which occurred this morning near Goro on the Guadalcanal plains, about 80 kilometres from the capital, Honiara.
Little is known about today's attack but the region is controlled by former militants and has witnessed several violent attacks in recent weeks, including the killing of a teenage girl.
Last week Red Cross officials were attacked and their vehicle trashed.
A group from the church group, the Melanesian Brotherhood has gone to the area to try and recover the bodies, and bring the wounded to hospital..
