Nurses and teachers in Solomons threaten action over pay problems

9:24 am on 7 September 2002

Medical nursing staff in Solomon Islands have issued an ultimatum to the government over its failure to pay their outstanding wages and allowances.

The assistant director of nursing, Amos Lapo, says the nurses plan to cut back their work hours if the government has not resolved the pay problem by Wednesday.

"All hospitals throughout the country will still provide services up to 12 o'clock midday and then they will go off from work in all clinics. It is expected nurses will still be there providing service on call basis only."
