Police in the Solomon Islands capital, Honiara, say they are taking information seriously that the Guadalcanal rebel leader, Harold Keke, is on the run after being chased from his stronghold on the weathercoast.

Reports from the area sasy Keke is being hunted by some of his men who are unhappy that he has been killing his people.

Keke has also been responsible for the killing of ten Malaitan men in June and last month he assassinated a government minister and relative of his, Father Augustine Geve.

Police say any operation to arrest him will have to be planned properly to prevent police from falling into a trap.
