Australian police accused of trying to destabilise Vanuatu government

Australian Federal poice have been accused of spying on Vanuatu and destabilising its government.

The Melbourne Age newspaper quotes Vanuatu's deputy prime minister, Serge Vohor, as making the allegation in a television interview to be aired in Australia tonight.

Mr Vohor is quoted as saying Australian police are spying through tapping telephone calls .

He says it is becoming a threat to Vanuatu's national security and is a threat to the economy and political stability of the country.

Mr Vohor is also quoted as saying that Vanuatu has to safeguard its sovereignty and if its objections were not heeded those accused could be imprisoned.
