11:03 am on 4 October 2002

The Solomon Islands Minister of Education says he is confident key fifth form examinations will go ahead as planned next week despite a threatened boycott by teachers.

The Solomon Islands National Teachers Association, or SINTA, have asked their members to boycott the examinations on October 7th unless at least four of the six weeks of wages they are owed are paid by today(fri).

The Minister, Mathias Taro, says the government have taken note of the ultimatum and pending cash flow from Treasury, will pay the teachers on time...

"I think it is within the government's capability to find that money for the expected payout. I don't think there will be any interruption of the exam."
