National unity the key in future Solomons development

Solomon Islands Prime Minister Sir Allen Kemakeza says the country's new development strategy must ensure national unity.

As George Atkin reports this comment was made during a speech celebrating Taiwan's national day.

"He says the country's previous development strategy concentrated on Guadalcanal and Western Provinces only while other provinces were struggling to develop their own areas. The direct impact of the previous development strategy was the ethnic crisis which shattered the national economy and government services. Sir Allen acknowledged Taiwan's forwardness in rendering help to Solomon Islands to overcome these difficulties. He says the Government appreciates Taiwan's assistance without stringent pre-conditions, but with more encouraging measures of goodwill. Sir Allen says Taiwan and other Asian countries understand the hardships, difficulties and the complexity of the problems his country faces"
