The Solomon Islands is to try and re-establish rice farming with help from Taiwan.
The country currently imports rice to a value of nearly seven million US dollars annually.
Attempts were made to start rice farming in the late nineties but Taiwanese agricultural advisors helping with the project were withdrawn after the ethnic tension erupted and the rice farms reverted to scrub.
The Prime Minister Sir Allen Kemakeza says the Taiwanese experts have returned to offer advice.
He says the Government is determined that rice farming becomes established because a reduction in rice imports will be a saving to the nation.
