In American Samoa, a settlement has been reached in a dispute over land boundaries and increases in lease payments between Satala Land Trust and its tenant Star Kist Samoa.

The settlement comes several weeks after the High Court awarded the Trust possession of the property in question, including the ground and building leases.

The Satala Land Trust was seeking through court recovery of the leased premises and payment of back rents it claimed Starkist Samoa owed to it.

The trust's lawyer, Charles Alailima, and the General Manager for Starkist, Phil Thirkell, say that they are pleased with the settlement and that the agreement ends a period of uncertainty for the cannery and its employees.

Neither of them would disclose details of the agreement saying that it was confidential.

Starkist Samoa is American Samoa's biggest private employer with several thousand employees.
