A Marshall Islands diplomat has been arrested in Fiji for posession of dangerous drugs while on official duty.
Roque Andrew, who was in Fiji to attend a workshop for diplomats from Forum Island countries, was detained at Nadi Airport when he was seen acting suspiciously while trying to board an Air Nauru plane for Tarawa.
He was arrested when he was found to be carrying twenty rolls of marijuana.
Andrew appeared in the Nadi magistrate's court yesterday and pleaded guilty.
But the magistrate discharged him on a technicality because the laboratory report which confirmed the substance was marijuana was not signed by the analyst
Police say they will re-charge Andrew today.
