The Solomon Islands government has approved the establishment of a Peace and Justice Council as a replacement for the now defunct Peace Monitoring Council.
It follows last week's announcement that an interim body, the National Peace Council, would be set up for a three month period to continue the work of the PMC such as encouraging people to surrender weapons.
But the Peace and Justice Council is to be a more permanent body.
The Prime Minister Sir Allen Kemakeza says it will be established with financial help from Australia and possibly the United Nations Development Programme, while Solomon Islands will contribute around 80 thousand US dollars.
